After the match, Rusev takes the mic and yells for Lana to come out. He says they need to talk and asks her to please come down. Rusev says he is not leaving until she comes down to the ring as we go back to commercial.

We come back to Rusev still in the ring calling for Lana to come out. Lana’s music hits and out she comes to the ring. Lana says he asked her to come and now she’s waiting to hear what he has to say. Rusev says he knows Lana cares about him no matter what has happened. Rusev says he knows Lana wants to crush America and the American spirit just as bad as he does. Fans boo and start a USA chant. Rusev asks Lana to take his hand and all will be forgotten. Fans chant “no” as Rusev tries to convince her.

They finally hug and Lana doesn’t look so sure. They raise their arms and fans boo. Rusev wants Lana to say three magical little words… I was wrong. Lana looks upset and turns to walk out of the ring. Rusev yells for her to come back and admit everything was her fault, then everything will be back to normal. Lana says she was not wrong, Rusev did say he quits at Payback.

Rusev yells that she’s a liar and he never quits. He says she needs to know her place. Rusev says he owns Lana and tells her to get back here. Lana just looks at him from the apron but comes back into the ring. Lana says no, Rusev is a liar and a quitter. She says he’s so cowardly he can’t take responsibility for his own actions. Lana says she belongs to no one. She says she’s no longer Rusev’s victim.

Lana says he’s never going to listen to Rusev’s caveman crap again, drops the mic and walks off as fans pop. Rusev throws a fit and out comes Dolph Ziggler to meet Lana on the stage. They kiss as Rusev looks on from the ring and continues to throw a fit.

We see Lana and Dolph Ziggler backstage talking. Ziggler walks off to the ring as we go to commercial.

During Ziggler vs. Sheamus, Rusev comes walking past Lana and runs to the ring. Ziggler superkicks him on the apron but turns around to a Brogue from Sheamus for the win.

After the match, Rusev enters the ring. Lana has came down to ringside and looks on as Rusev hits Ziggler with a big knee. He stares back at Lana and she looks angry at him. Ziggler takes another shot but fights back. Rusev drops him and stomps on his back before applying The Accolade right in front of Lana. Rusev breaks the hold and leaves Ziggler laying as he walks to the stage. Rusev yells back at Lana to kiss Ziggler now.

Fans chant for Lana and Rusev says there will be no Lana tonight. Fans boo. Rusev says there is no Lana and she needs to learn her place. Rusev says Lana does not speak for him, only he speaks for himself. Rusev says he knows how to speak our stupid American language and can say he quits for himself. Fans chant louder for Lana and Rusev yells that there is no Lana. Rusev says he did not quit last night and John Cena did not beat him. Rusev brags about making Cena pass out in the ring. Rusev says Lana quit because she’s weak. Rusev tells Cena to come out so they can restart the match. Lana comes out instead and fans cheer.

Rusev yells at her for defying him and coming out. Lana says she just wants to explain to everyone that Rusev isn’t like he seems to be. He’s not just The Bulgarian Brute, he’s misunderstood. She says something in Russian and then says she believes in him. She’s believed in him since the beginning and more than anyone else. Lana says she’s been with Rusev every step of the way and she was positive he would be the first man to make John Cena quit but that didn’t happen. Lana says that’s life and she was just trying to protect Rusev because she cares for him. Rusev says she’s in her feelings, pathetic and disgusting.

Lana yells that’s enough and asks what did he expect her to do. She says she did the right thing for him and for them. She says he was screaming in Bulgarian that he quit. A “you quit” chant breaks out. He calls her a liar and says there is no us, just him. He says he doesn’t need Lana, he doesn’t need anyone. He says Lana is weak and she makes him weak. He tells her to get out of the ring and go back to where she came from. Rusev yells at Lana as she walks to the back. He throws his arms up and fans boo. The music hits and he continues talking trash.

Later during the night, Cole interviews Ziggler in the ring and asks him how he feels after the match with Sheamus at Payback. Ziggler says the stitches hurt but not nearly as bad as losing to Sheamus. Ziggler says chicks dig scars anyway. Cole reveals that Ziggler gets the final spot in the Intercontinental Title Elimination Chamber. Ziggler talks about being open to any challenge or competitor when Lana makes her way out.

Fans chant for Lana. She waits a minute before grabbing Ziggler and kissing him. Fan chant for another kiss and she gives it to him. Rusev makes his way out and he’s furious. He yells at Lana and she slaps him. Ziggler comes from behind and lays Rusev out. He leaves with Lana as Rusev throws a fit in the ring.

Back from break, John Cena’s music played to bring out the U.S. champion to a favorable reaction. Cena ran to the ring and posed in the ring as the announcers hyped Cena as a fighting champion. Cena proclaimed that The Champ is Here after Extreme Rules last night.

Cena said he didn’t even get a chance to catch his breath when he found out he has to face Rusev again in three weeks ago. Aside from concerns about shady business, he said Rusev gets his respect because he’s a fighter and not the type of guy to quit. Unfortunately, their re-match at Payback is an I Quit match. Cena said there is no way he’s walking into a match on American soil and saying I Quit. He vowed to give Rusev the beating of a lifetime and never surrender.

Pause for a “U-S-A” chant. Cena said they’re all proud to Americans, which is why he’s saying Payback is the final chapter in Cena vs. Rusev because if Rusev does make him quit, then quite frankly he has disgraced America and definitely the U.S. Title. So, he won’t even deserve a re-match. Rusev said it’s pretty simple: if Rusev wins, he wins the title, and he never has to see him again.

Cena referenced the Vince Lombardi statue outside the building, quoted Lombardi, and said all he has done since becoming champion is make it the symbol of excellence and opportunity through hard work. So, while Rusev rests, he puts the title on the line with the U.S. Title Open Challenge.

After a pause, Heath Slater’s music interrupted. Slater walked out on-stage with mic in-hand telling Cena to wait just a minute. Slater said not only is he going to take advantage of a crushed John Cena, but become new U.S. champion of the World. Slater vowed to start his own Discount Slater Check, referencing Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers’s endorsement for State Farm.

Suddenly, Rusev attacked Slater from behind and chucked him off the stage. Rusev glared toward Cena, who put the title belt down in the middle of the ring. Suddenly, Lana walked out on-stage waving toward the crowd, drawing a reprimand from Rusev. Rusev sent her packing to the back, drawing boos from the crowd. “We Want Lana” chant from the crowd. Rusev shouted over the crowd to stop with their infatuation with Lana. Rusev said these people are all quitters. He said they gave up on themselves and their dreams a long time ago. And, just like all of these stupid Americans, Cena will be saying, “I quit!” Suddenly, the Russian flag dropped from the rafters as Cena stood in the ring trying to remain calm.
